Cookie Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025 • Last Updated: March 1, 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how Wellumix, Inc. ("Wellumix," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on our website at wellumix.org and within our mobile applications (collectively, the "Service"). This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which provides additional information about how we handle personal data.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website or use certain applications. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently, to provide a better user experience, and to provide information to website owners. Cookies may be "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (remaining on your device for a set period or until you delete them).

In addition to traditional cookies, we may use similar technologies including web beacons (small graphic files that track whether you open an email or visit a webpage), pixel tags (similar to web beacons), local storage (browser-based storage similar to cookies but with larger capacity), and session storage (temporary browser storage that expires when you close your browser). For simplicity, we refer to all of these technologies collectively as "cookies" in this policy.

2. How We Use Cookies

Wellumix uses cookies for several different purposes, which we categorize below:

2.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are essential for the Service to function properly. They enable core functionality such as security, account authentication, network management, and accessibility. You cannot opt out of strictly necessary cookies, as the Service cannot function without them. Examples include:

  • Authentication tokens that keep you logged into your account
  • Security cookies that help detect and prevent fraud and abuse
  • Load balancing cookies that ensure stable performance
  • Cookie consent preferences (to remember your choices)

2.2 Functional Cookies

Functional cookies enable enhanced features and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we use on our pages. If you disable these cookies, some or all of these features may not work properly. Examples include:

  • Language and region preference cookies
  • Dashboard layout and display preferences
  • Feature tour completion status
  • Recently viewed content history
  • Notification preference storage

2.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the Service by collecting and reporting information anonymously. We use this data to improve our platform, diagnose technical issues, and measure the effectiveness of our features. Examples include:

  • Page view and session duration tracking
  • Feature engagement analytics
  • Error and crash reporting
  • A/B test tracking for product improvements
  • Aggregate usage pattern analysis

2.4 Marketing and Targeting Cookies

We use a limited set of marketing cookies to measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns and to present relevant content. We do not use marketing cookies to target advertisements based on your health data. Examples include:

  • Campaign attribution tracking (which marketing channel led you to Wellumix)
  • Conversion tracking for our own advertising
  • Retargeting pixels for non-health-related content promotion

You may opt out of marketing cookies at any time through our cookie preference center or by following the opt-out mechanisms provided by each third-party service.

3. localStorage and sessionStorage

In addition to traditional cookies, Wellumix uses the browser's localStorage and sessionStorage APIs to store certain preferences and session data locally on your device. This storage is used for:

  • Remembering your cookie consent preferences
  • Storing UI preferences (theme, layout settings)
  • Caching wellness data for offline access
  • Maintaining session state for the funding bar and notification dismissals

Unlike cookies, localStorage data does not have an expiration date and persists until cleared. You can clear localStorage data through your browser settings.

4. Third-Party Cookies

We work with carefully selected third-party service providers who may set cookies on our Service. We require all third-party cookie providers to comply with applicable privacy laws and our data processing agreements. Current third-party cookie providers include:

  • Analytics providers for aggregate usage statistics (all data is anonymized)
  • Performance monitoring services for detecting and resolving technical issues
  • Customer support platform cookies for our help center
  • Payment processors for secure transaction processing

We do not allow third-party advertising networks to set cookies on our Service that are used to track you across the web based on your health data.

5. Managing Your Cookie Preferences

You have several options for managing cookie preferences:

5.1 Cookie Preference Center

When you first visit our Service, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner that allows you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of our website.

5.2 Browser Controls

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can typically find these settings in the browser's "Options," "Preferences," or "Settings" menu. Common actions include viewing all cookies, deleting cookies, blocking all or certain cookies, and setting preferences for specific websites. Note that blocking all cookies will impact the functionality of many websites, including Wellumix.

Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Options > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and website data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and site data

6. Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" feature that signals to websites that you do not want your online activity tracked. Our Service currently does not respond to Do Not Track signals, as there is no industry-wide consensus on what constitutes "tracking" or how to honor DNT signals. We continue to monitor developments in this area and will update this policy if our approach changes.

7. Cookie Retention Periods

The retention period of cookies on your device varies by cookie type:

  • Session cookies: Deleted when you close your browser
  • Authentication cookies: Up to 30 days (or until you log out)
  • Preference cookies: Up to 12 months
  • Analytics cookies: Up to 24 months
  • Marketing cookies: Up to 12 months

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will post the updated policy on this page with an updated effective date. For material changes, we will provide notice through the Service or by email. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Cookie Policy.

10. EU ePrivacy Directive Compliance

Wellumix complies with the EU ePrivacy Directive and applicable national implementations. This requires us to obtain your consent before placing non-essential cookies. Our cookie consent mechanism provides granular control, allowing you to accept all, reject non-essential, or make category-by-category selections. Your preferences are stored in localStorage. Withdrawing consent can be done at any time via the cookie settings link in our footer.

11. localStorage Used for Personalization

Our wellness personalization engine uses localStorage to cache certain preferences and settings on your device. Specific keys used include: hostname_bar_closed (dismissal state of the funding announcement bar), cc (cookie consent choice: y for accepted, n for declined), dashboard preference settings, and session state for onboarding flows. None of these entries contain sensitive health data - all health data is stored securely on our servers.

12. Cookie Security Practices

We implement the following security measures: the Secure flag on authentication cookies (HTTPS only), the HttpOnly flag to prevent script access and reduce XSS risk, the SameSite attribute to reduce CSRF risk, and minimum retention periods for all cookie categories. Our security team conducts regular audits of cookie practices to ensure ongoing compliance with security best practices and regulatory requirements.

13. Consent Records

We maintain records of cookie consent decisions including the date and time consent was given or withdrawn, the version of the cookie policy in effect at time of consent, and the categories accepted or declined. These records are retained for auditing purposes as required by applicable law. You may request a copy of your consent record by contacting privacy@wellumix.org.
